If you are working at a Professional Recruiting, Staffing, Executive Search firm and are truly one of the top billers for the organization, do you feel that you are being compensated fairly?
I have posed this question to top performers several times and the answer is primarily NO.
Most firms do sincerely appreciate everyone’s efforts and pay market value for the services of their employees but when it comes to top billers there is a feeling of inequity.
So what do you do if you are a Top Biller at your firm?
You certainly have a few options:
- Stay where you are.
You can stay at your existing firm and continue down that road and perhaps get promoted to sales manager.
Usually the sales manager role comes with more responsibility and more accountability for others performance and less time to build and maintain your present book of business that may result in less yearly compensation.
- Start your own firm
Starting your own firm is a great option if you have a solid past in starting and managing a company.
In this scenario, you build, you fill, you bill. The difficulty with the option is that not everyone has the skill, money and patience to start a new firm from scratch. Remember, just because you a great Professional Recruiter does not automatically make you a company start up professional.
- Buy into an Existing firm ( ie become a partner )
Buying into a partnership at an existing firm can be very expensive upfront and the ROI may be quite risky.
Even though you will share the profits, you will most probably be forced to deal with existing arrangements such as leases, employees, overhead, processes and traditions.
Exiting such arrangements may also be a difficult process.
